COMBATING CLIMATE CHANGE

It’s our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact however we can. Our commitment to reducing emissions, optimizing transportation and supporting renewable energy initiatives means we can leave behind a better Earth for future generations.

Reduced Carbon Emissions

Through a host of actions that have cut our emissions by 25%, we’ve maintained carbon neutrality in the U.S. since 2020 and have been a CarbonNeutral® certified company since 2021.

Environmentally Friendly Fleets

With the introduction of Automatic Route Optimization, we’ve reduced our miles driven by over 2.4 million since 2022 while delivering more product. We’ve also introduced low-carbon technology across 10% of our North American fleet.

Renewable
Energy

Renewable energy sources can help us conserve natural resources and reduce water + air pollution from fossil fuels, which is why we’ve purchased over 13,000 MWh of renewable energy since 2020.

PRACTICING SUSTAINABLE WATER CONSUMPTION

Water is a finite resource, which means we must always remain mindful of how we are sourcing, bottling and packaging our products. By implementing water-saving measures and continuously improving the efficiency of our operations, we can help ensure we’re contributing to the conservation of our most precious resource.

Water Stewardship

We were the first company to achieve Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification for a spring source, completing four AWS certifications across our owned spring water sources in the United States in 2022. Next, we’re aiming for a more expansive, enterprise-level verification called WAVE: Water Stewardship Verified, a program of the Water Council.

Diversification of Water Sources

We use less than 20% of the available volume from our permitted wells and natural springs in the United States, diversifying our water withdrawals over multiple sources to sustainably support high-quality groundwater retrieval.

Water Efficiency

In 2022, 25 of our bottling plants achieved a water efficiency ratio below the International Bottled Water Association’s (IBWA) average. By increasing our operational efficiency, we are on track to save millions of gallons of water annually.

REDUCING PLASTIC WASTE

Plastic takes hundreds of years to degrade and often ends up in oceans, rivers and landfills, posing a threat to wildlife and their ecosystems. Introducing refillable or reusable bottling services and exploring more sustainable packaging helps reduce plastic waste, which is paramount in minimizing our environmental impact.

Primo Water bottles are cleaned, sanitized, refilled and reused, saving the equivalent of 10 pounds of virgin plastics with every 5 Gallon bottle exchanged.*

100% Recyclable Materials

Our 3 and 5 Gallon plastic packaging, bottles and caps are 100% recyclable. Plus, we are committed to making 50% of our bottling plants zero waste by 2030.
